Dr. Rebecca Mitchell is an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist based near Geelong, Victoria, Australia, with both public and private clinical commitments. Inspired by her father, a rural general practitioner, she pursued medicine at Monash University in Melbourne. After moving to Queensland, she specialised in obstetrics and gynaecology, gaining valuable experience in Townsville and Cairns, and undertaking volunteer roles in Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. This connection to the Pacific led to her deep engagement with regional colleagues, including developing the O&G Standard Treatment Manual for the Solomon Islands.
As Deputy Chair of the RANZCOG Global Health Committee, Dr. Mitchell represents RANZCOG on the PSRH Board, fostering collaboration on O&G capacity development projects in the Pacific. Her primary contribution has been through the PEMNeT program, supporting the development and delivery of maternal healthcare training in Tonga, Kiribati, and at PSRH meetings.
Balancing competing professional commitments, Dr. Mitchell focuses on maternal obstetric training, enhancing partnerships between PSRH and PROMPT, the global maternity emergency program. She envisions PSRH as a strong, Pacific-led society that advances reproductive health through networking, capacity building, and grant-funded initiatives to achieve meaningful regional impact.
